We entered some LambWatch sheep into our first ever agricultural show at Trawden this weekend!

Yesterday we entered 7 animals from the Marlfield flock into the Rare Breeds section of the 2017 Trawden Show! After a lot of preparation, we set out early with Borerays Poppy, Fulvia and Boris and North Ronaldsays Gizmo, Rocky, Wispa and Thora. They were entered into various classes but were never competing against each other.
Weather-wise, it was one of the best days we've had in a month or so "up north" and so it made for the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon. We got off to a great start as well; with Poppy the Boreray being awarded the "1st" rosette in her class! Boris was awarded "2nd" and Fulvia was awarded "2nd" in hers as well! We were very pleased with the Borerays; Fulvia was very well behaved!
We didn't fare so well with the North Ronaldsays but they were up against some tough competition as there were classes dedicated specifically to this breed. Wispa was awarded "2nd", Rocky "5th" while Thora and Gizmo were awarded "Special" rosettes for turning up, bless!
We are very proud of our little sheep, on their first outing to a show, having never been prodded or poked by a judge before in a show ring! We learned a lot, had a good time, came home with a handful of rosettes and are very much looking forward to our next show in two weeks time at Malham!
Lynda has also been busy creating another "Knitted Sheep and Lamb" knitted from home-produced and spun Boreray fleece. She entered this into the "Adult Arts & Crafts" section and whilst they didn't win any rosettes, they were a very interesting item and stood out from all the other "usual" items! They were of particular interest to the children!

Did the judges give you any reasons for Boris and Wispa only being awarded 2nd prizes ? I bet you were so pleased at Poppy being awarded a 1st prize. Will you be taking any of the Shetlands to Malham Show ? I came to Malham Show on a coach from Blackpool about ten years ago - it is a lovely showground. I hope you and Heather find showing the rare breeds rewarding and your flock grows in value as the prizes mount up in the future.

Hi Cindy - yes the judge did give reasons. For Boris, it was his behaviour (and my handling), and for Wispa, his horns were a bit on the wide side. The judge was very good at explaining things. No shetlands will be taken to the Malham show. We will be taking Boris and Wispa and Fulvia and Poppy to Malham next Saturday. I wonder if there is a coach from Blackpool to Malham still!? I would imagine not but it would be great if there was.

Lovely photos. Those sheep are a bit smaller than I had imagined, but it's great to see them in perspective. I'm glad they did so well.
