The start of 2012 brings a change of grazing for our breeding sheep.

First of all, a happy New Year to all our lambwatchers... we hope you all have a healthy 2012. The two tups have now returned from whence they came, having successfully earned their keep whilst holidaying with us. As the lambwatch field has become a veritable swamp, due to the ridiculous amounts of rain we have had over the last couple of months, the sheep have been moved to a drier pasture and will remain there until lambing time. This will also give the field chance to recover and grow lots of luscious grass, ready for the arrival of the new lambs at the beginning of April. I will keep the bird feeder topped up so hopefully, you will still be able to see our regular visitors....I believe the squirrel has been lurking about recently?

Thanks for letting us know, Lynda. We'll miss them, but know they are having a good time somewhere else. Thanks for keeping the feeder going - always entertaining to see the birds, though I haven't personally seen the squirrel.

By the way, the "them" in my post "We'll miss them" refers to the sheep, not the two tups, who no doubt are going from gig to gig, holiday to holiday, having the time of their lives. May you all have a very happy New Year, including a large and healthy flock of little new lives in April.

A Very Happy New Year to all the family at Marlfield. Thank you for the update about the sheep ... looking forward to the new lambs due in the Spring. I saw the squirrel a week or two ago but it didn't have any luck as far as I could see. It made off up the field.

In case any of you are wondering, the black marks round the sign are sheep hoof prints... every time they put a foot down , it was sinking into the squelchy field

I saw the squirrel once during Christmas week - he was almost stood on his head swinging around on the feeder but soon gave up the idea of getting much food. I hope all the expectant sheep have found a sheltered spot somewhere and I look forward to seeing lots of little lambs with black faces like the tups in the Spring. Thanks for the update and Happy New Year.

The sheep are a lot better off in another field instaed of the quagmire that this fielsd is in.
