The first lambs of the 2010 lambing season arrived in the night last night! One male and one female lamb, all healthy and with a straight-forward birth!
We have had three sheep due to lamb in January but have been unsure as to their exact due-date. The mothers haven't been looking close to giving birth until the last week or so and so we are all very pleased that they decided to hold out until after the cold weather and snow!
The birth went very smoothly which was also a big relief as the mother was the same sheep that required a vet callout in the first season of LambWatch (see Live Vet-Assisted Lamb Birth) which was not a pleasant experience.
The lambs were born in the night in the relative comfort of the barn and are doing well. Pictures of the first 2010 family are below:

Well Done! Glad they are both healthy

Congratulations! Glad to know she was okay and her birth went well. I remember viewing a past video of that other difficult birth. I felt so sorry for the poor girl. Have a great weekend!

Great news! I saw the sheep in the field and wondered if any lambs had been born yet. Then I saw the forum post. I hope that all other births will be as smooth as these were.

Oh the dear little things! Don't you just want to have one?

Isn't nature wonderful? And there's Mum, looking puzzled about all the fuss. "After all," she says, "That's what I'm supposed to do, isn't it, produce these little bits of lambness?" And the lambs look so quizzical, as if to say - "What is this all about, then?"

Well, two more for the flock. Welcome, lambs, even if your mother is a bit contrary. Are you boys or girls? Enjoy life at Lambwatch, and be good to Lynda!
