Well what a fine lambing season this is turning out to be. The infamous Lottie, the sweetest and tamest sheep you could ever imagine, was found by Howard this morning at 7am with a prolapse. She was immediately taken to the vets where it required 2 vets to sort her out.
The difference between this case and Patch's case is that Lottie actually had a waterbag emerging from the prolapse, which meant she was actually starting to lamb: 2 weeks premature. This could be the cause of the prolapse but we cannot be sure.
After a lot of struggling, the two vets managed to get one lamb out of Lottie, which has a suffolk face so we all know who the father is(!). Both Lottie and lamb went through a horrible ordeal and Lottie is now recovering in the trailor and the lamb is in intensive-care in a straw-filled cardboard box in front of the fire in the living room. The lamb is barely with us, with it being premature, and Lynda is trying with considerable difficulty to get some milk down it. If we can't get it to drink then its chances are not good for the little chap I'm afraid. A purple rag has just been put around the lamb to try and keep it warm.
Obviously it goes without saying how everybody is currently feeling at the farm and we haven't even considered yet what this will mean for Lottie's future :(

Update 18:00 Mon 30th March: Sadly little Lottie's lamb died today. It was really too premature for it to have any real chance of survival and it had made very little progress in the time it was alive. Lynda was with it when it finally died so at least the poor chap wasn't alone and is no longer suffering which it probably was while it was alive. When it was breathing it sounded like it was battling against a bit of fluid in its lungs which would have naturally cleared had it not been premature.
Oh my, just waking up to this sad news over here. Prayers for Lottie and lamb.

What a horrible thing to happen - glad the vets could save both Lottie and her lamb. We all know that you will work hard to keep the little lamb alive and we pray that it starts drinking a little milk very soon.

I don't suppose there is any way you could call this lamb Agnus? No - I didn't mis-spell Angus, Agnus is latin for lamb - as in agnus dei (lamb of god).I think agnus lyndae would be Lynda's lamb but my Latin is very rusty and was never very good in the first place. It just seems a good name for this little one. We so want him to live!

My thoughts are going out to you all.. How sad that Lottie and Patch have experienced the same thing. Here is hoping that the young lamb will improve with the love, kindness and care that you all are showing it. Come on young man, you can do it!
