Over the weekend and Monday morning we have had three sheep produce lambs. Here is a bit of information on each of them....
The suffolk sheep, which was due to give birth first, did so, and produced two healthy female lambs. For now, they are in the field in front of the webcam, so if you see a sheep and two lambs wandering around on the webcam, that will be them! They won't be there all the time though as they are not strong enough to face any bad weather that is likely to come their way. When the weather turns, they will be brought indoors.
A young sheep has had two lambs and they too were straight forward and are healthy.
Lottie's mum gave birth to one female and one male but because she is one-papped (only produces milk on one side of her bag), she does not have enough milk to look after two lambs. For this reason, her female lamb has been taken off her and we are attemting to mother the female onto Lottie, who is still producing milk after having lost her lamb. Without a lamb suckling her, Lottie runs the very likely risk of getting mastitis (infection of the bag), so we are hoping, albeit without much confidence, that we can successfully mother on the female to Lottie. This requires manual labour twice a day as we physically need to hold the lamb to Lottie while holding Lottie so that she doesn't run off. With it being so long after Lottie lost her lambs, the chances of this being a successful process are low but it is worth a try.
At time of writing this, another sheep is also giving birth, and will post an update on this when we have one.
As a quick note though, obviously as the lambing season gets into full swing, we won't have the energy or the time to write updates on each and every lambing, but I will post updates now and then and keep you updated with anything extra-ordinary.
I cant wait to see and hear them all!

Many thanks for the update Dan; we appreciate being kept informed and understand that you are especially busy at the moment.
Good luck with Lottie and the lamb - we do hope that Lottie takes to her and allows her to suckle from her.

Thanks so much for the lambing update. I hope the weather warms up very soon so that the sheep and little lambs will enjoy the fields in sunshine. Looking forward to many hours watching them on the webcam. Good luck with the future lambing.

23:41 4/20/09 Two lambs at the sign, so sweet to see them this late. They are playing and seem to be very happy.
They are licking the LambWatch sign. LOL One has a black spot on right front leg.
