The woodpecker frequently visits the birdfeeder but until we moved the feeder closer to the cam while the lambs are out of the field, we haven't been able to get a good picture of him. Here we can see the woodpecker in all his glory, fending off blue tits and other birds, while he gorges himself on the tasty treats in the birdfeeder!

wow he is a big bird. Woodpecker braking the balls up,they have gone fast.

Hi Dan just watching the woodpecker clip and felt so sorry for the little birds,if you don't want to attract bigger birds maybe some smaller mesh behind the large holes.Tina

It was fascinating to watch the woodpecker eat buffet-style! It's a wonder his belly didn't drag the ground as he flew away!

Dont worry Tina...the little birds have another feeder to go at ( a bigger one ) in the garden.. the one on the webcam is in a field :)

What a treat! I had to get out my RSPB Handbook of British Birds to see what this was, and would guess it is a great spotted female. I'm in Canada where our woodpeckers are similar but quite different in markings. Is that other bird a great tit, or something smaller?

We moved to Australia a few years ago, and it's just wonderful to hear the birdsong. Parrots are ok, but don't sound as good!
