The last of the January-due sheep decided to start lambing at 10pm Monday evening while the owls were hooting loudly. It was a tight squeeze and the lamb not correctly presented, so we called the vet out for assistance who made it look easy! After Ron the vet re-adjusted the lamb's head position it popped out straight away (albeit with a fair amout of force!) The lamb is a very large single lamb and was a little bit "hypoxic" (lack of oxygen in blood supply) when it came out making it a little slow to start with but it is OK now.
Update From Tuesday Morning: The lamb still hasn't had any milk to drink despite being encouraged to do so from the bottle. It is still slow and lathargic so it is not out of the woods yet and may well die. Time will tell but all fingers are crossed as the last thing we want is for it to die, especially having called out the vet out-of-hours which won't be cheap!
Update 25th Feb 2009 Update from Lynda: hello.. just got in aftyer another session with lamb.. think it is beginning to make progress... we managed to get it drinking from its mum just now for the first time ... its still very slow but we think it may be ok... fingers crossed

What patient animals sheep are and not much fuss from them with all they have to go through with an assisted birth. Well done Ron the Vet, Howard and Lynda for a successful birth and now we are hoping and praying that the little lamb will start to feed. Thanks Dan for recording the event.

How is the lamb doing today? Does it have a name? The live birth footage was amazing! I really expected the mama to kick up a fuss - just shows how dramatic us humans like to be!

Hello :)...quick update... the new lamb ( now known to us as Babs) has this afternoon been taken out of intensive care ! she and her mum are now with the other two sheep, twins and single lamb and to give you an idea of her size, she is as big as the twin lambs that were born over a week ago,,,
