Can't wait to hear all about your adventures and, hopefully, see your photographs.

Hi Dan and Heather,

Welcome Home.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip.  It was great of you to come onto chat whilst you were away and keep us informed.  I for one didnt expect that.

Speak to you son and thanks for giving us the webcam picture back so soon after your return.

We were so lucky on this trip it is quite unblievable.... not only because of everything we got to see, but also because of how the truck managed to stay in one piece and how the weather stayed fine most of the time and the lack of any tectonic activity in the volcanic areas!!

Just read this article about the Chaiten Volcano which had already had an affect on Futaleufu from where I posted on lambwatch while there. The poor town had been hit hard by the previous eruption laying a thick layer of ash which was still there when we were there. It was fine when we were there but looks like it has been up to its old tricks only yesterday...

Chile's Chaiten volcano spewing ash again

I feel for the poor people of the small towns being affected by the activity of this volcano. They try their best to build up their economy only to be hit back to square one whenever this thing decides to belch!

I have also heard from our tour leader, who drove the truck all the way down, telling me about his journey back to Santiago. He drove 60 hours trhough storms and chilean police and even had an explosion from one of the air tanks on the truck!

I think we were so lucky because everything turned out nice for Darwin's 200th birthday, which took place on 12th Feb 2009, which happens to be the day we were watching the sea lions, cormorants, albatross and penguins on the Beagle Channel!
