New Cam

Posted: 04 Nov 2008 12:00:46

I have just purchased online a new NightOwl webcam (exact replacement of the current one) for £99.99 from Maplin (click here and do a search for "nightowl" to see item). The current cam is still dodgy despite soldering and is now unreliable where it is just easier for me to get a new one. I have ordered the cam online and I do not know how long it takes to be delivered (I should imagine 3 to 5 business days) but as soon as it arrives I shall be installing it and auctioning off the dud one on ebay in order to raise funds. Many people have over the past few days offered to contribute to the purchase of the new webcam and if this offer still stands feel free to use the donate buttons which are now shown at the bottom of each page. Just click the flag of your currency and you will be able to make a donation in your own currency. Thank you for your generosity and support. Please note that part of any paypal donation goes to fat-cat paypal themselves in the form of a fee for the transaction (bourne by the recipient of the money not the sender). You can see how much of your donation goes to paypal by using this nice little tool. Obviously it would be nice to not give any of the fat cats any of the donation as I think they have enough money as it is and so if you prefer you can make a contribution by postal cheque made payabale to "Daniel Procter" and sending to us at "Marlfield Farm, Dark Lane, Earby, Barnoldswick, BB18 6LB, UNITED KINGDOM". Please Note: I would just like to re-iterate that contributions are entirely optional. Please do not feel that you have to contribute to the new webcam. Any money that is recieved is greatly appreciated and we are very grateful for. Don't forget there are also lots of ways you can support LambWatch without donating money directly. You can find out how on our support page. Thank you!!

I am pleased that you have decided to purchase a new webcam Dan. It will save you so much aggro and you really are too young for anymore grey hairs :) I'm sure your Mum will be happy, too, not having to tweak and twiddle the connections.

My Ã.£5 cheque will be in the post tomorrow. Glad you decided to buy a new cam and save yourself a lot of stress. Looking forward to watching many more happy hours of Lambwatch.

Hi Dan I'll send a cheque off in the post this week. Im glad you have decided to buy a replacement, maybe the lessons learned with the first will make this new one last longer. Is there anything you can do to protect the cables and cam? As an aside, I thought you'd be humoured to find that my Windows Internet Explorer thinks that lambwatch is a suspicious site lol. Re: New Cam - good news bad news

Thank you :)

Good news is that a new webcam turned up today.

The bad news is they sent the wrong one... de ja vu.

It's exactly what happened last time their stock management is appalling.

They sent me one worth Ã.£40 less and so now I have to go through all the rigmorole of a return.

I would have been tempted to ring them and give them what for!  How frustrating!!!

I can only imagine how you feel Dan;  after reading your post  it's taken me half an hour to cool off on your behalf before I could submit this message.  Maplins really don't deserve your patronage.

After all that though, it's onwards and upwards - deep breaths and start again.  Keep smiling :)

Hi Dan

I know how you feel. I ordered a pc game from amazon last week and they sent me the right box but the wrong disk. Its very annoying...

Hope all goes right for you soon.

*hugs*

Great news Dan!

Does that mean we get the view back but lose the view of the sheep?  There is no pleasing us is there?  lol.

I think I would like to somehow maintain this view of the sheep but am not sure how to proceed with it. The current view uses a tripod for the camcorder but this webcam doesn't have the same slot for a tripiod instead it has like a docking thing with screws.

I'll see what I can do. I'd like to possibly keep this view and webcam position as it is indoors so will provide protection for the webcam through the winter but it just means i need to figure out a way to keep the webcam sturdy....

Leave it with me ... :D
