Webcam down
Posted: 21 Oct 2008 18:55:50
The rain finally got to the cam & seems to be affecting video. Cam will be down until I can figure out where the leak is and fix it which requires daylight, preferably no rain and considerable wire fiddling, none of which it is suitable to do at time of writing this. Will keep this thread updated with updates. Sorry for the downtime :(

Not good folks

I have taken all extensions out of the equation and its still not playnig ball. I think the webcam is busted :( Still not exhausted all lines of diagnosis but that's what is suggested so far. I am bringing the lot in, drying it out and taking out all extensions. THe whole length is infested with earwigs (which is prolly therefore what that bug was) so it's not a nice job in the pouring rain and wind, with a torch in one hand and scissors in the other trying to undo all my intended never-to-be-undone bindings that i put on back in spring without families of earwigs falling down ur wellies and into ur sleeves at the same time.. *not having fun*

Hi again Dan I am realy sorry to hear that things are not looking good with the cam. GGRRRRRRR to earwigs is what I say!!!!!!
Please do not go busting a gut or making yourself ill by standing out in the rain and wind just for us. We appreciate what you and your family have done to keep us entertained and show us what happens on the farm. We know you want to get it back up and running but please take care of yourself in doing so.

Webcam status update
Posted: 21 Oct 2008 22:02:51
Well i have tonight spent about 3 hours gathering and detangling and cleaning up all the equipment and I can honestly say the condition it was in i am surprised it lasted this long. It certainly wouldn't have survived christmas.
Anyway what i plan to do is let it all have a good dry out and start at the bottom and work up, in an attempt to work out where the problem is. Worse case scenario is the fault is between the actual camera and its connection to PC but fingers crossed if it is there then it is just dampness causing it and mud build up.
Ill try it tomorrow and give an update then in the evening.

Well it's a miracle... seems like bringing the lot in and cleaning it up, letting it dry out and de-earwigging it did the trick!
Just need to rig it back up now :) Which I will see if i have enough energy to do after corrie :P

WebCam Up!
Posted: 22 Oct 2008 23:20:36
Thank you and you're welcome. I am much happier with its location now too - its a lot tidier and I now have a couple of spare cables :) Also it should not go down as much as it has been doing and it should also be a lot stronger against the elements - we shall see in the coming days!!
