Dan's "Movember" Needs You!

Posted: 23 Nov 2010 10:05:54

I have been taking part in "Movember" this month, which involves growing a moustache, and generally looking like a burk using facial hair, in order to raise awareness of and money for prostate cancer charity. As my brother is already running a campaign to raise money for Macmillan cancer, I decided to dedicate my Movember to his campaign and any money I raise will go to that.

The other good thing about donating to this campaign is that Barclays Bank will match, pound for pound, every donation made, so a dontion of £1.00 = £2.00 to Macmillan.

I am posting this to ask for your support with it :-) If you would like to donate, if would be great if you could put a comment on the donation saying that it is from Dan's Movember.

Dan's Movember is one of several mini-campaigns to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer as part of Tom's bigger campaign, which is to climb Mt Kilimanjaro next year. Other mini campaigns have included guessing the length of the best man's speech at Tom and Gayle's wedding which raised about £80 or so!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to this fantastic cause!

My oldest son is also doing this. He was a bit worried about job interviews with a few sad wisps above his upper  lip  but is persevering for the sponsoship money.

Good on him Maria. Any sensible employer, once an explanation has been given, will only see it as a good thing in my opinion :)

I just want to bring your attention to our sons fund raising efforts for cancer research. It is particularly relevant at this time as yesterday Howards younger sister succumbed to this awful disease after a very positive and brave battle over the last two years. Thank you to all the lambwatch community for any contributions you can give to this very worthwhile cause. She had a great deal of support from the Macmillan nurses in her final month or so

Well done Dan and my sincere condolenses to Howard and the family on the loss of his sister.  A colleague of mine also passed away this week 1 day before her 48th birthday.  My thoughts are with all who are suffering from or have lost someone they know to this disease.

I will be donating

So sorry to hear the sad news. My sister "went" in the local  hospice. They were very kind and her daughter ran (Alex ran???) to raise money for cancer research,

I am so sorry about Howard's sister passing. Please know I am thinking about you all. I consider myself so blessed to be well after having breast cancer in 1993. Research and good care centers make so much difference in our cancer battles. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Good luck, Dan and Tom!

Congratulations on beating the so and so Claudia. My sister-in-law also made a full recovery from that.  It's people like Dan and Tom raising money that funds the research that is improving people's chances of a good recovery.  There's  a long way to go with this and everyone I have sponsored this year seems to have been running/cycling/swimming/growing or shaving hair etc for this cause so maybe one day everyone will be able make a good recovery.

I have a cousin undergoing chemotherapy for stomach cancer at the moment and we are cautiously optimistic that she will be OK, and praying for that.  Every litle bit helps.  Three cheers for all those who fund-raise for this important cause.  My Mom was a survivor.

The "Movember" campaign for men's heatlh and Cancer research has been a tremedous success.  In Canadian monies, the UK has raised over ten million dollars (about 7 million pounds) , Australia about 14,500,000 dollars, and the Canadians a little less, around 14,300,000 dollars.  That is terrific.  There will be a public "removal of facial hair" on a CBC political programme at 5.00 pm, this evening, when some of our politicians who grew facial hair will shave it all off.

Hiya Margaret,

Yes it was the end of November. I got rid of my layer of insulation just as the cold weather started.

Thank you  for donating :) I also had a pot collection too that I took around with me during the month which made just over 30£ too :)

Hiya Dan,

You've done well :)  Have you an idea of what the final total is;  your personal total and the Movember as a whole?
