Unforunately there has been a rather large outage on the broadcasting PC at the farm. This means there will be no live streaming webcam until this is fixed.
I will keep you posted.

Thanks for letting us know Dan. I hope that the situation can be rectified. Is this going to be a long job do you know?

The computer isn't booting so it needs a re-install. It doesn't have to be clean - it just needs to boot! I am hoping there is a Windows CD at the farm where this can be done quite easily. If there isn't, it could take a couple of days to be fixed. If there is one, I would hope it can go back online tonight.

Hey, Dan, your Mum is going to be such a pro at computers and webcams and disks and gizmos that she will be taking your job soon.
"How can you keep'em down on the farm once they have seen ..." how all this technology works?

Mum v Computer :)

Oh, we've all done it. Not to worry, Lynda, it will all sort itself out. When all else fails, read the recipe (or something). Meanwhile, we'll just talk among ourselves and look at that strange image on the screen.

We had an outage here at the weekend. Took nearly 24hours to fix. All our back-up batteries got flattened. I was lucky - the local fireman lives nearby. I could not open the pesky smoke alarms to change the batteries - getting a bit old to wobble on a ladder. The fire service did it. I love living in a village.

oh dear... Im so sorry everyone.... dont know what I have done to the computer but that picture of me that Dan has posted above, shows exactly what Ive been like all day with trying to get the thing working. Have got Ben involved now and between him and Dan, I hope we will be up and running before too long. Its all my fault and Im really at a loss as to what Ive pressed by mistake but the computer refuses to get to the " desk top", turning itself off and then restarting continually. I really ought to stick to washing up and ironing I think......

Lol mum as I said, you were very unfortunate to have this happen. Don't worry! When we get it back, I'll make sure, in the words of sralen, "it don't happen again" :)
With a bit of luck, it should be back online by tomorrow evening.
Posted: 16 Jun 2010 09:27:18
These things can happen with computers Lynda.. they really do have minds of their own and are unpredictable! :)

Hi Lynda,
No one here is blaming you for the lack of picture. There is more important things to worry about and above all your health is No.1!
Think about all the times it has gone down and you magically brought it back all by yourself. ![]()
Now please forget about the this computer problem. Ben and Dan will sort it out and we will be back to watching again. ![]()
Its time to get out there and enjoy the weather.
Take care

Dear Lynda,
I do this kind of thing all the time! It just takes one finger hitting the wrong key and off the whole thing goes into cyberspace. It is just about the most frustrating thing in the world, and some days I want to drop mine off the balcony and down to the parking lot nine floors below. Don't worry about it. You have done a superb job keeping it all together so far, and you will again, but these things have a life of their own, and sometimes a bit of malice or mischief creeps into their innards!
Fi's suggestion to get out and enjoy the sunshine and do things you enjoy, or attack some other tasks around the house, will save your sanity. Let the boys fix it!! Whatever has happened it's probably not fatal, and meanwhile, we'll chat to each other and look at the little girl and the silly clown.
Peace, within, without and all around!
Helen

Lynda,
I agree with the others...enjoy the sunshine and your lovely farm. You have much more important things to take care of (you being number 1) than the computer. All your efforts with the computer are greatly appreciated by all of us.

Funny how quickly we get dependent on new things. Twelve years ago I didn't even have a computer, now an outage is a disaster. Mind you the house was cleaner and the garden tidier before the 'puters were installed. I was more active (and thinner) and children did their homework without Google.

You are so right Helen, I can witness about the days when I was a studend in computer programming, Most of my mates wanted to give some bad things to the computer like fist, kick or to throw it out of the window.
It can frustrate a man so much. it is a very unexpactable instrument.
I hope it will stand up soon to enable us the watch of the lambs and the all nature life in the farm
and a glimpse to Yorkshire view.
Thank you Lynda and Dan.

Not to worry, Lynda and Dan. This just makes us realize how much we love our Lambwatch!

Ben has very kindly restored a default image of windows onto the PC . Now all that remains to be done is for the software to be rebuilt....
Hopefuly it should be back on some stage tomorrow :)
Posted: 18 Jun 2010 08:39:59
Rebuilding the software - something one can do from a disk? It sounds like rebuilding the house from scratch, a long and tedious process. Let's hope not.
I hope you are OK, Lynda, and not feeling frustrated over the whole thing. There's nowt one can do in cases like this but go off and do something else.... and wait for the wizards to get it all up and running again.
Take care - big hugs coming your way from all directions, I know.

Oh what a wonderful day, and what a great family you all are.
I am delighted that you have managed to restore the computer and we now have a picture of your lovely Lambwatch field and its occupants in their summer outfits.
Thank you oh so much, 1 more piece of good news needed and it will be a perfect day for me.
Come on England!!!!
Happy Birthday to Fabio Capello, Fabio the sheep and his fans are hoping you and the boys will do the job for us!

The webcam is down. Unfortunately this time it is out of our control.
It appears Camstreams have had a major outage.
For updates, visit www.camstreams.com
Camgrabs should be working in the meantime.

Camstreams have had to order a new server.
Speaking as somebody who has been in Mr Camstream's situation before, I would appreciate patience in this matter.
There is nothing anybody at the farm can do about this and you rest assured it is being worked on as quickly as possible.
I understand it is disappointing but this does happen from time to time and could be related to the dry spell that the UK has been experiencing lately.
As somebody who works in the industry of "the Internet", I have seen several examples of services going down this week and there is nothing more frustrating when you are trying to fix something, than constant pestering for updates or explanations. It takes as long as it takes and, speaking from experience, it's best to leave those who are fixing to do just that.
Camstreams have had to order a new server and it is now out of their hands until it is provisioned. Just to manage expectation, this could take anything from a couple of hours to a couple of days, even Monday, depending on the capacity of Camstream's host's network. After this, the server will need configuring. As you know from your experience of LambBot, this can take some time, again depending on the infrastructure of the system and availability and dating of any backups. Because of the nature of Camstream's server (streaming service) I imagine there is quite a lot of tweaking to do to get the new server up and running, after all, LambBot has an easy time of it compared to a streaming server....
And we must remember that Pat at Camstreams does all this for us for absolutely no money, so for that we should be very very grateful.
Thanks again for your patience in this matter.

Sorry to hear about the downtime at Camstreams Dan. These things happen. Thanks to Pat and good luck with all the hard work that is to come once they have their new server.
Thanks Dan for keeping us in the picture, so to speak! :)
Posted: 25 Jun 2010 20:44:45
Thanks, Dan, for the update. Pat is probably much more frustrated than we viewers are, and I just hope for his sake it isn't a mammoth problem. We will be patient, we will find other things to do, we will talk to each other, and it will all sort itself out when it does. No worries - it's just a delight when it works, and I for one am grateful.
It's a surprise to me that the drought might be a factor in all this, but what do I know? Stranger things have happened.
Helen

Three cheers for Pat at Camstreams, and all the other wizards who have us up and running again.
