To all Lambwatcher Friends, especially those who wave at the earwig at night.
One dark night on Marlfields Farm
The Earwig waved at me,
and I waved back, without much luck
For never a sign gave he.
The only, lonely, unfriendly Earwig
The Earwig of Earby, tee hee.
A harmless thing which waggles its legs
and drapes them over the cam,
And sometimes looks right back at me,
as if to say "Here I am!"
The only, lonely, annoying Earwig,
Acting up like a ham.
He seems to plot each move with care,
and nothing is done in haste,
He takes his time, and thinks it through,
and seems stuck to the lens like paste.
The only, lonely, indolent Earwig
With a lot of time to waste.
He doesn't sing, and he doesn't dance
He just obstructs the view.
Somebody loves him, that we hope,
Though his companions are very few.
The only, lonely, untalented Earwig
Has he any friends that are true?
Does she have a mister, or he have a sister?
The truth is hard to tell.
The only thing we know for sure -
That he blocks the view quite well.
The only, lonely, obstructionist Earwig
The Earwig of Earby, with shell.
He doesn't know that he bothers us so,
As he tries, in the night, to keep warm,
A pretty smart bug to have figured it out,
And roost in the light of the cam.
The only, lonely but so-clever Earwig,
Who hangs out at Marlfields Farm.
