water source

Posted: 25 Jun 2009 14:24

Hello everyone,

I am Betty and I write from Texas, USA. I enjoy this site so much.

Late last night I started to wonder what source of water is there for the sheep? Is there a natural stream or do you have a well?

I mentioned this in the chatroom and no one there at the time knew for sure.

The weather there always looks so pleasant.  (I would be willing to relocate if you could put me to work. LOL) It's getting so hot here, I don't venture outside except early morning and late evening!

Have a good day, y'all! , Betty (formerly known as bubbasmom)

Only Dan and family could answer you properly, Betty, but I think there is a stream down in the dip between the fields.  Occasionally it floods.

Glad you signed on.  I've bumped into you several times in chat, but now you are "landed" in the Lambwatch community for sure.

Thanks, Helen,

I tried forums before, but was dropped when the system crashed. I had a real time getting re-registered!

You are so talented, Helen with your poetry writing.

I'm going to get my son to post a picture of Bubba for me. I think y'all will enjoy seeing the little "critter"! You'll see him barking up a tree!

When I went on the open day last year, my finace and I had a picnic at the bottom of the field where there is a little brook. I dont know if this is the same lambwatch field as last year, but if it is, then I am sure that is the water source :)

Hello and welcome back Betty! :) Glad you finally made it back after our little data loss issue :)

Christine and Helen are correct, there is a little stream at the bottom of the hill (we call it the beck - local dialect) which hasn't dried up as long as I have known it. It runs off the moor. We are lucky in that all our fields have natural water sources via streams and ditches so we have no need for untidy troughs or wells :)

Oh, they have an open day at the farm? How fortunate you are, Christine, to be able to go there. Those of us on this side of the large pond envy you.

Thanks, everyone!

Dan, Wow, I remember "beck" and "moor" from the Herriot books. When I check in at LambWatch, I like to think I'm looking in on those times.  Just a little fantasy of mine.

When is open day?  I don't even have a passport yet!

Thank you for providing such entertainment for us!

Betty and Stephanie,  I think we should arrange a North American trip, if not this summer, next, and plan to meet somewhere like York or Manchester and get ourselves down to the farm.  There is a huge number of us folks from across the Pond, so we could an agent to organise something for us.  One Canadian is already on her way there now.

Wouldn't that be fun! I'm like you, Betty, thinking of the Herriott books when I look at the farm. I either have the theme song from the TV series or Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze" running through my head as I watch. I would enjoy going to England some day. It will probably have to wait until I retire.

Hi Stephanie,

It was difficult for me to watch the TV series All Creatures Great and Small. Somehow, the actors just didn't look as I had imagined from the books. I should locate some copies and give it another try.

Besides, when it was being broadcast, I was at work most of the time. Retail stores don't  respect TV schedules!

I asked my son (who has some experience with travel) about making a trip to England. He said transportation would be the least expensive; that lodging and so forth would be the priciest. Then, he said if I could restrain myself from ordering from QVC, a trip might be possible! Gives me a goal! YAY!

Betty and Stephanie, don't give up the dream.  Find a way to save points or something.  That's how I go!  I'll see you there.
