To make you smile

With apologies to Robert Service, Canadian poet,

"There are strange things done 'neath the midnight sun
By the sheep that toil for treats.
The Yorkshire Dales have their secret tales
Of thieves that make nowt a bleat.
The northern lights have seen weird sights
But the weirdest they ever did see,
Was a sheep with a bite, like a thief in the night,
That stole all the fat balls we see.”

Helen, I'm sure that if Robert Service saw the sheep, he'd appreciate your poem. Love it!

Perfect words Helen - your poem really portrays the antics of the sheep

at Lambwatch. Hope you write lots more poems to brighten our days

and make everybody smile.

That thieving sheep (not the one named Meep)
Was born and raised on the farm,
With grass galore in the field next door
Who’d think she cause such harm?
And she thought her scheme would never be seen
since she did it in dead of night
but watchful eyes made Dan quite wise
And he put her up on the screen.

Now all can see how the “criminal she”
Made off with the birds’ delights,
No secrets here, and never fear
The feeder is moved to new heights.
But she’d better beware, and take great care
If she wants to stay on the farm.
We’d hate to see, from our cam in the tree,
That she came to serious harm.

The muse smiled on you as you created your verse. I chuckled as I read it.

A revised verse three ---------------

Now all see how the criminal yow
Made off with the birds’ delights,
No secrets here, and never fear
The feeder is moved to new heights.
But she’d better beware, and take great care
If she wants to stay on the farm.
We’d hate to see, from our cam in the tree,
That she came to serious harm.

Have just realised that the above can be sung to one of the melodies from Gilbert and Sullivan's "Mikado".

"The criminal cried, as he dropped him down
in a state of wild alarm..." . Sung by the Lor High Excutioner and chorus.
