Words to Cheer You

Posted: 18 Jun 2009 07:59

I found this in The Friendship Book by an unknown author:

This I know:

I have planted a garden, so I know what faith is.

I have seen tall trees swaying in the breeze, so I know what grace is.

I have listened to birds singing, so I know what music is.

I have watched children playing, so I know what happiness is.

I have seen a Summer's morning, so I know what beauty is.

I have seen a sunset, so I know what grandeur is.

I have lived in a happy home, so I know what love is.

And because I have experienced all this, I know what wealth is.

Good morning Dan,

They are lovely words and I'm glad you like them.

I thought many of the lines were so appropriate for the Lambwatch site.

Thank you, Margaret, for such a beautiful way to begin the day!  In the mdist of whatever else is going on, those values shine out as beacons in our world.  You have brightened my day, for sure!

Thank you Margaret!

What beautiful words. We all need to hear that from time to time.

I hope that you were blessed as much as those of us who have read them.

Here is a poem which I have always found helpful.  It is  by G.J.G (that's all I know).

It isn't the times that you've failed in your task,

It's the times you have tried that will tell.

It's not the amount of hard work you have done,

But if it's done truly and well;

It's how you rose up after falling that counts,

Not how many times that you fell.

Here we are again :)

This is by Margaret Ingall (found in The Friendship Book)

We speak with different accents

We come from different lands

Our threads of kin and culture

Are worked in different strands,

Yet still they make a pattern

So intricate and fine,

That though we may not see it

Their colours blend and shine

And though we all are different

Each life one goal should span -

To make our thread of being

As perfect as we can.

Here is another little verse from The Friendship Book:-

Today I wish you a day of ordinary miracles;

A fresh pot of tea you didn't have to make yourself,

An unexpected phone call from an old friend,

Green traffic lights on your way to work.

Today I wish you a day of little things to rejoice in;

The fastest queue at the supermarket,

A good singalong song on the radio,

Your keys right where you look.

Today I wish you happiness and little bite-size pieces of perfection

A day of simple pleasures, happiness and joy!

A little poem by Margaret Ingall, found in The Friendship Book 2010.

How strange, that deep in Winter's gloom

When all the world seems grey,

A sudden shaft of Winter sun

Can change the dullest day.

The buildings glow with golden light,

The pavements seem to gleam,

The puddles, just like splintered glass

Reflect each fragile beam.

The grass shines like a satin quilt

With stitches earthy brown,

Red berries glint in hedgerow's grasp

Like jewels within a crown.

And though this transformation may

Be quick to disappear

A little glimpse of Winter sun

Makes hope shine bright and clear.
