Sheep Shearing @ 8pm UK time

Posted: 14 Jun 2009 11:13

Hello everyone.... we clipped the sheep this morning at 9.30am and rigged up the camcorder in the barn to record it. We will be playing back the camcorder footage from 8pm tonight (UK time) so feel free to tune in if you want to watch it! 8pm should tie in nicely for those folks who watch countryfile :P Feel free to discuss what you see or ask questions about it on this forum thread.

So that's...

I am looking forward to seeing it too.

So far they all sound very happy to rid of their fleeces . Still waiting for them to come and say hi to us on cam though.

Thanks Dan

Thanks, Dan.  I got up early to see the ewes being moved this morning, but realised that you would have to film the clipping and show us later.  I look forward to it.

Lovely warm day for the sheep to be sheared - sure they will be thankful for feeling nice and cool. Thanks for letting us know what time the video will be shown tonight.

I should perhaps add that I shall be playing the unedited version tonight at 8pm and as such lasts approximately 1hrs 3mins!

Questions - do you weigh the fleece?  Do you bail it or how to you pack it for shipping to the mill?  I may have more of these later.

Thank you to all concerned for a great evening's viewing.  You all worked so well together and what a difference those electric cutters make.

Hi Helen - we do not weigh the fleece. They get bagged up in massive bags, put in the back of the trailer and taken to a village near Keighley, where they are then taken to Bradford. They get sorted and the poor, dirty fleeces get removed. We do not clip the sheep for any real financial gain and we are only likely to see £10-£20 profit on them (in total). The main reason why we clip the sheep is for their own welfare.

Glad you all liked the show :)

Thanks, Dan!  That's not much profit, but if it helps the sheep, good.

Thanks for a wonderful night on Lambwatch. The one hour film was such a treat and we got a marvellous view of the shearing.
